MATTO Beirut

I would like to start by thanking the management for the invitation; it was an exquisite dinner. We were two, and we loved everything from ambiance to food and service.

The interior is unique and stylish; I really liked the design. The place was full; nevertheless, it wasn’t loud, so the ambiance was lovely.

The service is on point. I noticed there are lots of waiters running around all the time so they’re always available. Everyone took good care of us, especially Rawad.

Speaking of food, everything was delicious. We shared several items to try and have an idea about different dishes. We started off with “Salmone Tartare” and “Polipo” salad; both were very fresh. The tartare was very enjoyable. The “Polipo” salad, with roasted octopus, was inviting with all those mixed greens and potatoes. Next we tried the “Parmigiana” and “Bresaola e Tartufo”. The “Parmigiana” arrived hot just as it should be, and the cheese was melting. So yummy! The “Bresaola e Tartufo” had goat cheese, baby spinach, and black truffle shavings. It was really good. As for main course, we chose the “Gamberi alla Piastra” which are tasty grilled Argentinian prawns with a side dip, and the “Porcini e Tartufo” – homemade ravioli stuffed with porcini mushrooms and black truffles shavings which are simply divine. It was definitely our favorite… mouth-watering! I also liked the toasted cheese on top, nice for a change! We were already full, but Rawad insisted we try the dessert, so we ordered the Matto Rock. The presentation is so cool; they offer you a hammer to crush it, but watch out, it’s a soft chocolate ball so don’t hit it too hard unless you wanna shower the people around you and yourself with some mousse au chocolat and jam.

For drinks, we tried some very nice French wine, Bourgogne Aligote by Domaine Chevrot, that was also recommended by Rawad. It’s Bio and doesn’t contain sulfate, so you feel like it’s very light.

The portions are not big, for example the prawns were only three, I guess that’s why we were able to share that many dishes just the two of us… or maybe we’re just gluttons 😀

One last thing I’d like to add is that I believe the average cost mentioned on Zomato ($60 for two) is very underpriced. I’d say it’s about double the amount.

All in all, we had a great experience. Highly recommended.
